Declutter Your Email Marketing Strategy
Today we are going to begin a new series for the month of April on how to spring clean your online presence. We will be talking about refreshing, cleaning and renewing as it applies to your business, your marketing, and your online presence. I hope for these episodes to be practical and purposeful for you.
This week I will be walking you through how to declutter, update and realign marketing on your email list to match the current goals that you have. Spring is the perfect time to revisit your email marketing strategy. We all think about cleaning in the spring: refreshing, renewing, new things, new life, and how all the stuff that was dead in the winter is now coming to life again. Lets get ready to clean up your online presence with these tips!
Declutter and Update Your Email
First, you want to go and clean up your list. Did you know that inactive subscribers, along with those who have unsubscribed, will remain on your email list unless you delete them? Almost every email marketing tool, ActiveCampaign, Constant Contact, Kit, and Mailerlite, all have an area where you can delete inactive subscribers and those who have unsubscribed.
Next, when building an email list, you will want to create a lead magnet. A lead magnet is something of value that you give away for free in exchange for a person’s name and email address. After that lead magnet is delivered, you should be delivering a welcome/nurture sequence or freebie email. Don’t forget to think about some ways that you might refresh your lead magnets or your opt-ins, maybe update them. This is important to do because the world changes quickly, online business changes quickly and there is always new updates to things. Keep it fresh.

Finally, update your welcome and nurture sequence to reflect your current message. If you do not have a nurture sequence, you will want to get one. I have an episode that I did about how to create a nurture sequence. If you don’t already know, a nurture sequence is a series of emails you send that will help your subscribers get to know you better, to like you, and trust you. I send out a series of seven emails over the course of 30 days. As a result, I am not sending out emails every day.

Stay Consistent
In order to have a healthy email list it is important that you stay consistent with your email schedule. Your readers will expect to hear from you on a weekly basis. Choose a day that you know you can be consistent on to send out the emails. I just recently changed the day that I send out my emails because I was unable to stay consistent on Thursdays, so I started sending out my emails on Saturdays. It’s important to stick to whatever schedule you have for your readers.
Another way of staying consistent is by having a theme of the month for all of your content. This will help with your email marketing, social media, blog and your newsletter.
If you did not attend my monthly training recently in the Christian Business Advantage Facebook group, I did a live training about how to set a strategy for your content that includes a content calendar and how to repurpose one piece of content into many pieces of content called Content Repurposing 101. If that is something you’re interested in and you were not in on the live training, email me at alyssa@alyssaavantandcompany.com and I will send you the recording.
Looking Ahead
Next week we’ll be continuing our series on spring cleaning your online presence by talking about dusting off your social media platforms. In week three, we will talk about how to freshen up your WordPress website and in week four, we will talk about how to create a simple spring marketing plan. I would love to have you over in the Facebook group, the Christian Business Advantage. If you’re not a member, hop on over to Facebook and join us!
