Mid-Year Check-In

Today we are going to be talking about our Mid-Year Check-In- Reflecting with Purpose. Think back on the year that you have had thus far. I’m a big goal setter, so at the end of each year I begin to think about the goals that I’m going to have for the new year. You can however re-evaluate and reflect any time of year, and this time of year is perfect to do this. As for myself, I like to write things down and journal. I’ve been a journaling for almost 35 years now and have written in a journal on an almost daily basis. I also like to use a planner. My current planner that I’ve been using for the past seven or eight years is a Passion Planner. At the end of every month it has what is called a monthly reflection that allows you to look back on the month that you have just finished.

Questions to Ask

I thought that I would give you a few reflection questions. Some of these are from my Passion Planner and some of these are just a couple of questions that I thought of. It is up to you how often you want to do this type of journaling. I hope these questions can help you to decide if you are doing what God has called you to do. Are you accomplishing the things that you are wanting to accomplish or do you need to change you goals? There’s nothing wrong with changing your goals and planning your next steps with confidence and with faith.

  1. What has God been teaching me?
  2. What was the most memorable part of the past month? Make sure you describe it.
  3. What were the three biggest lessons you’ve learned in the past six months?
  4. What did you accomplish?
  5. What are you especially grateful for?
  6. What results are you most proud of?

Break Down Your Goals

If you haven’t listened to my series about the 12 Week Year on my podcast I encourage you to do so. The series starts on episode number 183, which is the concept of the 12 Week Year. It then goes through what the 12 week year has done for me. My podcast is centered around The 12 Week Year: Get More Done in 12 Weeks Than Others Do In 12 Months by Brian P. Moran. It is a book I read many years ago and have since applied to my life and business. This book helps you to break down your goals into manageable chunks or pieces. Apart from reading the Bible and doing Bible studies, it’s one of the books that has helped me the most in life and business.

The 12 Week Year is a simple but powerful way to get more done in less time. Instead of setting goals for the whole year—only to lose steam a few months in—it breaks your year into four 12-week chunks. Each one is like its own mini-year, with clear goals and a plan to actually reach them. This helps you stay focused, motivated, and consistent because you don’t have time to procrastinate. It creates a sense of urgency and keeps you moving forward week by week. It’s a great system if you’re tired of setting goals and not seeing results.

I want to encourage you wherever you are in business right now, whether you feel like you are on track to meet your goals, you’ve already met some of your goals, or you feel like you’re incredibly behind. Remember that you are right where God wants you to be if you are following and focusing on him. You are being refined into the person that He wants you to be, so be encouraged, not discouraged. Use some time to reflect so that you can continue forward in what He has for you. We’ll be back next week to talk about realignment and getting back on track when you feel like you’re off.
