Create a Simple Marketing Plan
Today we are continuing our series for the month of April on the topic titled Spring Clean your Online Presence. Today in our final blog for the month of April, we will be talking about how to create a simple spring marketing plan.
Over this month we’ve refreshed our email, our social media, and our website. Let’s bring it all together and I’ll guide you through creating a doable marketing plan that keeps Christ at the center. We’re going to talk about setting some realistic goals for April and May, mapping out some content, choosing your marketing channels and how to repurpose one message across email, social media, and your website.
Set Your Theme
Having a theme for each month helps you to stay focused and gives you a jumping off point you can use in everything you have to do. Try to build on your topics and for those topics to go together well. Then break your topics down into manageable chunks. For example, in the month of April, we did: Spring Clean your Online Presence, so we’re going to follow it up in May with: Fresh Start for Your Email Marketing. Some of the things we will be talking about are knowing if you’re supposed to switch email providers and how to make that a smooth transition, building your email strategy, and finally we will talk about all the tech pieces. This is exactly how I do it, and it doesn’t have to be complicated.
Spread Out Your Content
After you have set your theme and broken things down, you’ll be ready to map out your content across all platforms. As I have said before, I recommend choosing one or two because the more platforms you add the more work there is. You want to be able to be consistent across all those channels, so don’t over tax yourself.
Another way to lighten the work load is to repurpose your content on one or more of those platforms. I personally try to post to Facebook and Instagram with same content getting posted to my LinkedIn. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Use one message across email, social media, and your website. Just tweak it for each of those different platforms. Don’t try to come up with new content for each channel or platform because then you are giving yourself more work.
Don’t Worry
A lot of times people worry that if they put the same content across all the different platforms that everybody will see it over and over again. This is actually a good thing because it takes a person seeing something, on average, seven times before they act upon it. Keep in mind, the likelihood of them seeing it more than one time is slim. So I wouldn’t worry about the messages being the same on all your different platforms. Remember the person who listens to your podcast may not read or even subscribe to your emails and the person who reads your emails may not listen to your podcast or read your blog.
Stay Focused On Your Mission
Sometimes it’s hard to stay faithful in what we’re doing because we feel like we’re running ourselves ragged and no one’s listening or getting our message. However, that is not the case. The truth is they are, and what if you are the only person who is sharing that message with them? I saw recently on Instagram where someone said “What if someone is waiting on you to do what God has called you to do? What if what you do is the thing that helps them and you choose not to do it?”. This really resonated with me. It’s so easy to get bogged down in all we have to do that we forget that we have a God-given mission and purpose. Stay focused and try your best to not get frantic so that you can fulfill that call.
