Today we are continuing our series on email list building, and we’re going to be talking about the necessities for building an email list. I don’t know what it is about having four items, but just like last week, today we have four different items or necessities. for building an email list.

The very first necessity is a lead magnet or free offer.

When you are trying to build an email list, most people don’t want to sign up to be on your email list just for the purpose of being on your email list. You must give them something of value for free in exchange for their name and their email. So we call this a lead magnet or a free offer. And this can be any number of things.

I do have a whole entire episode on this topic. I also have a 20 plus lead magnet ideas that I can give you. In exchange for your name and email address, I will give you those. I will put that in the show notes. But lead magnets can be email sequences. They can be PDF downloads. They can be like a checklist, a audio, a training, a webinar.

I could list many, many of these, but those are some good examples, and you would deliver that to them, and in exchange they would give you their name and their email address.

In order to make this happen, you need an email service provider that has an auto responder.

This allows you to, any time of day or night, They come to your website, they fill out a form, it automates it for you and you don’t have to do anything.

Some good email list providers or service providers are ActiveCampaign, ConstantContact, ConvertKit, and MailerLite are some that my clients use and those are all great ones. In a future episode, I will talk a little bit more in detail about each of these different providers. I also have an entire episode on my favorites and why they’re my favorites.

Then you will also need what’s called a welcome email.

This email will be sent to them when they sign up and it will deliver this free offer or lead magnet and it will also just welcome them to your email list. You can put some great information about yourself and what you have to offer in this email to kind of share a little bit more about you and your business, your books, your speaking, your coaching, whatever it is.

Whichever category you fit into there. And then you will attach or put a link to the freebie in that particular email. So they would go to your website or landing page and they would put in their name and their email. And once they hit submit, it would trigger your autoresponder in your email service provider to send them the email that would include your free offer.

If this is something that you struggle with and you don’t know how to do all these pieces you can always hire someone to do this my virtual assistant business Alyssa Avant and Company does offer this as a service and my team and I would be happy to help you It’s a lot of what I call moving parts and so you have to make sure that you have everything that you need It’s sort of you know, good thing to have a little checklist going these are the pieces I need. And do I have everything I need to make this happen?

And of course, after you have all that set up, what do you do next?

You want to share or promote your email list.

You can do that in numerous ways. You can do that on social media. You can do that at your live events. You can do that even in your books.

You can do that on your email signature line. In your emails that you, you know, private emails that you send to people, you can say sign up for my freebie. You can promote it by pinning pins to Pinterest that link to your website or landing page. There are so many ways. When you’re a guest on a podcast, you can say come over to my website and give the URL to the place where they can get your free offer or lead magnet and that will get them signed up for your list.

You can do guest blog posts and in the bio put a link over to your website so they can come and sign up to be on your list. I’m sure there are more, I know there are, but I’m just trying to give you kind of a high lighted overview of some potential ways that you can do this. But these are the necessities that you need to even start an email list in the first place.

And that is again an email service provider. A lead magnet or freebie, a welcome email, and a place to promote. Or just the idea of promoting this lead magnet that will in turn build your email list. So, I hope that this was helpful and that you understand what I’m talking about. If you need assistance, don’t be afraid to reach out to me.
