Why Your Online Presence Matters
Today we are starting a brand new series for the month of September 2025. This month’s theme is Streamlining your Online Presence.
This is a month focused on helping you to refine your digital footprint and make your online presence more effective and less overwhelming. Today we are going to talk about why your online presence matters. We’re going to define what your online presence really is, why it’s important for credibility and connection with your audience, and how it reflects your brand and your message.
I want to encourage you to simplify and strengthen your digital footprint so that you can reach the people that God has called you to serve without feeling overwhelmed by all the moving parts, because honestly, there are a lot of them.
What is your online presence?
When many people think about an online presence, their mind goes straight to social media, but it’s much more than that. It’s the total picture that people get when they search for you online. That can include your website, your email list, your social media. If you have a podcast, and even guest appearances that you might have on other people’s podcasts, or blog posts you’ve written for yourself or for others.
It is the full digital blueprint or footprint rather, that you leave behind. Think about this. If someone Googled your name today, what would they find? That collection of results is your online presence. Why does that matter? The truth is we do live in a digital-first world, meaning that before someone decides to buy your book or hire you as a coach or invite you to speak, they will almost always look you up online.
The importance of your online presence
If your presence is clear and if it’s consistent and professional, that will in turn build credibility for you. People are more likely to trust you, to see you as an expert or a guide and take the next step, but it’s not just about credibility; it’s about connection. Your online presence is where people can get to know you. They can know your story, your values, and your heart.
As entrepreneurs, we’re not just selling products or services, but as Christian entrepreneurs, we are building relationships. Your digital blueprint or platforms give people the chance to connect with you even before they meet you in person. Your online presence is a reflection of your brand and your message. If your website is outdated or your social media is scattered, it may send a confusing message to other people about who you are and what it is that you offer. When your online presence is intentional, it does the opposite. It reflects the calling that God has given you. It communicates the values that you stand for, the mission you’re on, and the unique way that you serve others. That doesn’t mean your presence has to be perfect, polished, or flashy.
What does your online presence reflect?
When you go online and you search for somebody, what do you like to see? You like to see someone who is real. You like to see maybe some behind the scenes, and you like to see their personality. That’s being authentic and aligned, and that’s what you want to do. There is a Bible verse that this makes me think of—Matthew 5:16 Let your light shine before others that they may see your good deeds and glorify your father in heaven.
Your digital footprint isn’t just about growing a business, but it’s also about shining the light of Christ through the ways that you show up online. Whether that’s through encouraging someone through your newsletter, or sharing resources on your website, or making conversations on social media. Your online presence can still be a testimony.
I want to remind you that your online presence matters because it builds credibility. It fosters connection, and it reflects both your brand and your faith. When you intentionally do that, you’re not just building a business. You’re shining the light of Christ into the digital world. Next week we’ll be giving a little more practical talk about how to create a website that truly works for you. Week three is making social media simpler, and in week four we’re going to talk about email marketing made easy.
