Finishing Well: Staying Spirit-Led in Busy Seasons

Today, we’re starting a brand new series for the month of November called Faithful Finish. As we are entering the last two months of the year. I want to help you finish this season, not frantic, but faithful. Following the Holy Spirit’s lead instead of the world’s pace.

You might’ve noticed that I took a break in October. During that time, I re-aired some of the top episodes of 2025. One of the things I noticed is that the popular episodes were around reflection and determining what was best for you during a specific time in your business. Because of this, I wanted to make sure that I did something that would be helpful to you. Those were episodes that seemed to be beneficial to everyone.

So is the year. I’m finishing up. One of the things that I’ve learned is that I have to slow down a little bit. I had a lot going on for the month of October, and we’ll continue to have a lot going on with the holidays. And my oldest son is getting married in December. We’re actually down to less than 50 days before the wedding. So all of that has to take precedence over my business, and that is one of the reasons why I want to talk about staying spirit-led during these busy seasons. So let’s finish well and say spirit-led.

We’re going to have three main ideas for finishing well.

Pause

Number one. Pause for perspective and reflect on how God has worked this year in your business. I am sure if you’re like me, there have been highs and lows. There have been wins and challenges, and I believe that we can all learn from some of those things. We can learn from the good and from the bad. What have you learned through your wins and your challenges this year? Try writing down wins in one column and challenges in another column. Reflect on what you have learned from these things. That would be super helpful.

Pray

Number 2. Pray for direction. Ask the Holy Spirit what to focus on next, not what the algorithm says. Sometimes God redirects your path. You may not be expecting it, but he does.  There have been many times in my business where I wasn’t sure what to do next, and God would make it very apparent. I would pray for him to show me and direct me. He would give me the projects that would be best for me. Those projects would then lead to others. He carved out a specific niche for me in my business, and he led me to the people I needed to partner with in order to get exactly what he wanted for my business. If you will allow him to, he will move you in the direction that you need to go and redirect you at times.  He will help you to focus on what is right for you and your business. The only way that you’ll know that is if you ask him and not try to do it all on your own and not force going in a certain direction, but allow him to lead.

Proceed

Number 3. Proceed with peace; move forward only in what aligns with your calling, not with comparison. Many times we think, “Oh, I need to do better because this person over here is doing this, and so I need to do it.” That sort of thing. We compare ourselves to other people or compare our businesses to other people’s businesses. It’s like if you’re going down the road and you start to look off, you’ll veer off in that direction. If that’s not the path that God has for you and you’re looking at somebody else’s path, you might get on their path, and it might not be exactly what God wants for you. That causes chaos and disruption in your business and in your life.

I learned a long time ago that it’s best if I don’t compare my business to other people’s businesses. The Bible says that comparison is the thief of joy. Looking back on those times, remembering when I was comparing my business to all those other people’s businesses, I wasn’t happy with my business. I did not have the joy that I have in my business now because I know that I’m doing what God wants me to do, not what I thought looked good from the outside. I don’t know what it’s really like on the inside. The same goes for you. You may think, “Oh, that person has it all together, and they know.” Or you might think their business is so much better than yours. That might just be what it looks like from the outside, but we dont know what the inside looks like. Remember that when you are tempted to compare yourself and your business to someone else.

Finish Strong

Pause for perspective. Take the time to write down your wins and your challenges, and learn from them. Pray for direction on what the Holy Spirit wants you to focus on next and proceed with peace. The scripture that I wanted to emphasize for this is Galatians 5:25, which says, “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”  I want to encourage you to take 10 quiet minutes today to ask God what he wants you to do to finish this year. I am going to be doing the same, and I’ll encourage you to do that and come back next week as we talk about simplifying to serve and how to clear out what’s distracting you in your business.
